- Don't forget to get another book by an American author for SSR.
- Review the Transcendental page here on WEEBLY that describes the "Nature Journal" that is due February 13th, before leaving for the long weekend. Remember, you are not necessarily describing nature so much as you are experiencing nature as a poet might. Consider how Emily Dickinson writes about nature (slant of light, winter afternoon, bees, etc.)and explores the abstraction (of death or truth) and relates it to "nature."
- After several readings of the 4 Whitman poems distributed in class, access the Walt Whitman Poetry page here in WEEBLY. Be prepared to answer all of the questions for each poem. In class, you will be placed in expert groups to answer the questions and for your assigned poem and present your findings/answers to the class.
- If you have BIG RED at home, read and take notes on the background to our next "ism:" Realism (375-384).
